Welcome to my website

a sort of blog, from Ben Saren

  • Galvanized

Marketing executive and behaved citizen by day, unruly insomniac by night. A dash of mania, a sprinkle of wonder, combined with a heaping tablespoon of impulsiveness. Unwilling to follow the masses, longing for truth and meaning, having some fun along the way.

  • Burano

one of my recent favorite shots; a house on the island of Burano, Italy. See my portfolio here.

  • Split personality

Another favorite recent shot from Burano. See my portfolio here.

Ben is an entrepreneurial and innovative executive with 15 years of marketing, technology, and business development experience for B2B, B2C, and Internet businesses. Ben is currently Vice President of Marketing at Litle & Co., one of America’s fastest growing companies and a pioneer in e-commerce payment solutions and Payments Intelligence.

Ben is one of those rare individuals that you meet and just know will be successful. For nearly 10 years I have watched him take on numerous challenges with conviction, drive and integrity. His leadership and steadfast belief has been the driving force in the creation and success of CitySquares. It has been a pleasure to call him a colleague and friend.

Jason Pavona

Prior to joining Litle, Ben was Co-Founder and CEO of CitySquares.com, the pioneer in hyper-local search, with the backing of several of the world’s most recognized investors including Mark Cuban and Jonathan Kraft.

Known for disrupting and challenging the status quo, Ben has been covered from industry blogs to The Wall Street Journal, The Boston Globe, the Boston Herald, and Mass High Tech. He’s a frequent speaker on innovation, Payments Intelligence, Internet trends, and entrepreneurship and has presented at conferences ranging from Web 2.0, and Search Engine Strategies, to The Kelsey Group conferences, New England New Media Association, the Web Innovators Group. Ben regularly speaks about entrepreneurship at Boston area colleges and universities.

The Dominant One, The Prominent One

What can I say… I’m speechless, at a loss for words. My favorite hip-hop MC of all time passed away Monday. Guru, of Gang Starr, Gifted Unlimited Rhymes Universal, succumbed to cancer after what was reportedly a very intense battle and ended in a month long coma and then a heart attack. He was 43 (47 according to the New York Times). There’s a lot of drama surrounding his passing, but it’s family business and should be left out of the media.

It was about 1989 and I used to stay up late to catch Pump It Up on Fox, which … Read more

Kill Section 926

If you read this blog, you don’t need to be reminded that I’m an entrepreneur, or that CitySquares has been funded by angel investors from eCoast Angel Network, to Jonathan Kraft, and Mark Cuban, among others. The bottom line is that CitySquares would not be here today if it were not for our angel investors, but more generally if it were not for Angel Investing as a whole. Most importantly though, angel investing is good for America, that simply cannot be disputed. So why is Senator Chris Dodd trying to make it harder for entrepreneurs and companies to raise angel … Read more

Ten Conference and Networking Tips

Posted on March 25th, 2010 in Entrepreneurship, Marketing, Networking with 13 Comments

The Kelsey Group, or should I say BIA/Kelsey, held their annual Marketplaces conference this week in sunny San Diego. A heck of a show it was. So good that I probably was only able to sit in a handful of sessions. I say that because when I first started going to Kelsey shows in 2005 I was a newbie to the local scene, a newbie to local search conferences, and I probably sat in on 90% of the sessions, and soaked up information like a dry sponge. And that was the intent – to learn as much as … Read more
