The Google App is worth keeping. I had the Pearl too and just like you I loved that phone..other than having to reboot it every couple of days.. What I missed on the iPhone that I had with the Blackberry was the ability to just start typing a name to call them. Well the Google app brings that back.. just start typing a name and the address book names just start coming in.. thank God! Trying to scroll through 2000 addresses is a royal pain especially while driving.

Ha - if your wife is anything like mine, she probably wasn't too pleased that you were sending e-mail at the dinner table. But I hear you: there's sooooo much that overpoweringly is in the iPhone's favor (just browsing the app store blows me away - for the future implications of what will come as much as for what is there now).

I did forget one other thing that's holding me back in my last post though - on my BB I've really made use of autotext. I've added a lot to it, like "lmk" becomes "let me know", "bd" becomes "Best,Dennis" and dozens of others. They allow me to "speed type" e-mails. This would be lost on the iphone, although the predictive typing will partially make up for it. Any thoughts from your experience on the loss of autotext? (Autotext is probably something that will eventually come on the iPhone, btw, as there are already apps like TextExpander out there now for the Mac.)

Hi Dennis. Thanks for posting. I know I totally hear ya. But, ya know, I thought cut and paste was going to be more of an issue, and while it's annoyed me a couple times, it hasn't been nearly as much of a problem as I expected it to be. I can't quite 'put my finger on' why either, oddly enough. I know it's coming too, well, I'm very hopeful it is anyway! Also, funny thing came up last night-- I was on my porch having dinner with my wife and with a fork and knife in my hand I was able to type an email to someone .... with my pinky, sideways! Like, with the outside of my pinky tip! I turned to my wife and said, "ya know, I couldn't do this with the Blackberry!"

Great comments - thanks for taking the time to put this together. As an equally concerned BlackBerry user and prospective iPhone buyer, this helped a lot. I'm convinced that the keyboard will be fine, but my last concern is the lack of cut & paste, which I use on my BB all the time. I mean cut & paste - how could they have left that out? Rants aside, have you missed C&P in switching from the BlackBerry? Thanks again.

This was great. Appreciate the comments about the keyboard and the comparison between Verizon and AT&T coverage!

that was superiorly in-depth. I kept t-mobile because of the worry about AT&T (unlocked first gen iPhone). I am also in Somerville (Davis Sq) and the service here, Boston, and Waltham is really decent.
